Luis VasquezC. Luis Vasquez was born in Lima, Peru. Luis is now a retired cardiologist. While attending medical school and after graduation, he worked at the Cardiology Department of a Lima Charity Hospital with clinical and teaching responsibilities. Also and on a charity basis, Luis worked in small communities affected by earthquakes and other natural disasters. He was Medical Consultant for Latin America for ICI Pharmaceuticals from England. Luis has traveled extensively in Peru and in Latin America since 1960. He now resides in the Chicago area and is still active in business with his wife Mary. Luis promotes Medical Meetings, Continuing Medical Education [CME] programs and special Cultural Tours to Latin America via a travel organization he founded in Illinois in 1981. In 2006, The Yantalo Peru Foundation received IRS approval.

Luis’s mother was born in Yantalo, a very poor community in the Peruvian Amazon Jungle. Yantalo with a popuilation of close to 3000 people, is the center of activities for the Foundation.

Mary VasquezMary Vasquez was born in LaCrosse, WI, studied her junior college year in Japan. Completed her B.A in Macallester College, MN, and her post graduate at the U of Minnesota. She lived in Peru for ten years where she headed a Study Abroad Program and was Guidance Director at the American F.D. Roosevelt School in Lima. Upon her return to the States, she was the Executive Director of the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program in her home town. She is Founder and President of The Vasquez Group, Inc., [Gurnee, IL] Employee Assistance Program providing services throughout the United States and internationally.

Roberto Vasquez was born in Minneapolis, MN. During the 1980 Cuban refugee crisis he worked at Ft. McCoy, WI as an interpreter. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana, IL and obtained his PhD in engineering from Stanford University in CA and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Roberto worked at Hughes Space and Communications on the design, development and launch of various satellite systems including Thuraya - the first commercially successful satellite-based mobile phone system. He is currently a vice president at Science Applications International Corporation and runs a P&L business line focused on the space industry.
Mario VasquezMario Vasquez was born in Lima, Peru. He graduated from the U of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (1990) in Mechanical Engineering and obtained a full scholarship for his MBA at NYU (2000) with a dual concentration in Finance and Management. His work in E.I. DuPont included Engineering, Sales & Marketing, Operations, and Finance. He currently works for Invista Co and is responsible for Business Strategy and Mergers, Acquisitions & Divestitures. Mario has traveled extensively throughout South America, Europe and Asia. Was the president of a regional chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and received a nationally recognized award for community service.
Ian VasquezIan Vasquez was born in Lima, Peru. He received his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and his master’s degree from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC. He is the director of the Project on Global Economic Liberty at the Cato Institute in Washington, DC, where he oversees and produces research on economic development. He is the editor of Global Fortune: The Stumble and Rise of World Capitalism (2000) and coeditor of Perpetuating Poverty: The World Bank, the IMF and the Developing World (1994). Vásquez has been a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and is a member of the Mont Pèlerin Society.

Dr. Jerry FriedmanDr. Jerry Friedman is a Board Certified Pediatrician. He completed his internship and residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami School of Medicine. He attended the Premature Care Institute of Cornell Medical Center. He was responsible for the establishment of an indigent care pediatric center at St. Johns Mercy Medical Center, caring for 10,000 children visits annually. He is married, with three children and four grandchildren.
Gerry Friedman, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, is the wife of Dr. Jerry Friedman. She has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Goucher College and a Masters Degree in Urban Affairs from Washington University in St. Louis. Although she considers herself a “professional mom and grandmother”, her background includes work in public relations and advertising, land development and urban revitalization.
Connie Cline is a young 59 year old, recently retired and who also loves gardening. Her main career has been in education as an elementary school teacher and has worked with all ages of children in various roles. Connie has also taught parenting classes.She spent the past 10 years at Anheuser-Busch, the beer company, managing a variety of projects and conducting management training. In July 2008 she spent one week in Yantalo!
Tom Brown is 60 years old and retired from 42 years in the heavy/highway construction industry, 30 of those years he was a project manager. When he's not gardening, he stays busy operating his construction consulting business and a small home remodeling and repair service. He's also a great cook, paints and writes with eloquence. In July 2008, he became the baseball coach for the kids in Yantalo.

Carlos M SamameCarlos M Samame, MD a retired gastroenterologist, graduated from the University of San Marcos School of Medicine in Lima, Peru. Carlos did a post-graduate training in Tokyo, Japan with emphasis on gastro-endoscopic procedures. He served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of San Marcos and later Medical Director for the San Juan de Dios General Hospital in Callao, Lima. Carlos was appointed by the Peruvian Health Department to supervise the operation and administration of 42 government medical units in Greater Lima. In 1968, together with Dr. Luis Vasquez, Carlos pioneered the first Medical Credit System in Peru at the Servicio Medico Washington in Lima. The group was composed of a staff of 18 professionals from different specialties. Carlos currently functions as the Vice President of the Yantalo Foundation in Peru.

Sarina T. HrubeschSarina T. Hrubesch, born in Mandalay, Burma, grew up and has lived in the United States and also in Austria. After earning a degree in psychology from VA Tech, she relocated to Austria for 16 years. There she started up and managed a branch office for Manpower in Salzburg, and worked in human resources and training for Marriott in Salzburg and Vienna. In 2005, back in the U.S., she co-founded a business providing art education for children in southeast Virginia. At present, she works independently as a Life and Transition Coach. She is a member of Kiwanis. Besides her native language of English, Sarina is fluent in German, and is working toward achieving a conversational level in Spanish.
Robinson VasquezRobinson Vasquez born in Lima, Peru, is an Attorney at Law, graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (1993), former Notary of Lima (1999 – 2007), arbiter, and Master in Comparative Law (LLM) at Brigham Young University in UT (2008). He specializes in international business transactions and worked in the International Section of Kirton & McConkie Law Firm in Salt Lake City. Robinson was Co-founder and Chair of the Lima Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. Currently, he is participating at the MBA program at the University of Utah, where he is creating an eco- business plan to be applied in Yantalo and improving our relations with internship and volunteer programs in Utah. He is married and has three children. His family's ancestors come from Yantalo, Peru.
Josh GibsonJosh Gibson graduated at Columbia College Chicago (2006). He is a freelance photographer and videographer based in Los Angeles and has been involved in documentaries in Lebanon, Greece, Sudan and across the Untied States. His first visit to Yantalo was in June 2007 and with To The Moon Productions, Josh is filming a feature length documentary on the changes taking place in Yantalo. Expected completion of the documentary coincides with the completion of the Yantalo International Clinic Adelina Soplin by December 2012. He is also responsible for the Yantalo website.
